about

To be honest, while this song was never played when I was in high school, its lyrics were written during that time. I owe the chorus' structure to a cool cool band called Commerce. This song is (obviously) about longing for someone but knowing that it's juvenile. That self-aware element that one sometimes finds in pop punk is something I find really admirable and something I found present in both some Panic! and FOB music. So the title pokes fun at their song titles while initially presenting that self-aware element through the parenthetical.

lyrics

I know that you're in a rut
but I'm the one that's stuck
Cause getting over you
is the hardest thing I could do

And I promise I won't miss you
or any of my favorite things about you
Like the way you looked last weekend
or ten minutes till the end

And sometimes I can't recall my own name
and sometimes I wonder if you're to blame
For ruining all the thoughts I've thought in my head
and making me wish I were dead

If you were there
I'd watch you play with your hair
and pray that you might catch be
so you'd have to stare back at me

But none of this can happen
because I refuse to play pretend
And I know that you'll understand
It's cause we're not children

And sometimes I can't recall my own name
and sometimes I wonder if you're to blame
For ruining all the thoughts I've thought in my head
and making me wish I were dead
